Logging Wild Ways takes a gentle approach to woodland management. Even so, with eighty acres, there are sometimes dead or dying trees that need to be felled. Occasional healthy trees must be taken out to give other varieties a chance to flourish. Usually it is introduced species that are sacrificed in favour of native trees. The timber extracted is sometimes sold as hardwood for craftsmen, sometimes converted to charcoal, and also keeps the hearth fires and stoves burning throughout the winter. |
